Mailscale review 2026: pricing, pros and cons of its shared-IP SMTP inboxes

Mailscale sells its own SMTP/IMAP inboxes in plans of 15, 50 and 200 for $79, $119 and $249 a month, on IPs shared between customers, with a 7-day trial and a strict no-refund policy. Warmup and sending happen in a sequencer you pay for separately. Outreach2day puts mailboxes, warmup and a sequencer in one bill at $2.50 a mailbox, which costs less at 15 and 50 mailboxes all in.

  • Warmup and sending included
  • $2.50 a mailbox, 12 minimum

What Mailscale is

Mailscale started in 2023 as a self-serve way to generate cold email inboxes: buy domains in the app, create up to 5 inboxes per domain, and download a CSV of SMTP/IMAP logins for Instantly, Smartlead or another sequencer. The CSV is ready 20 to 30 minutes after you order. Those plans are still on sale at app.mailscale.ai, Google's first result for the brand, with a 7-day free trial.

The mailscale.ai home page now sells something else: Agentic Mailscale, a done-for-you outbound service with a 400M+ contact database, AI copy, pre-warmed domains and an AI reply agent, priced per customer after a call and started with a short pilot. The home page links the self-serve app only as "Login (previous customers only)".

The inboxes are Mailscale's own servers. The help center says the IPs are shared between customers and there are no dedicated servers; there are no Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 accounts.

Mailscale pricing

List prices from Mailscale's pricing page, checked . Taxes and card fees excluded.

Per inbox the plans fall fast with size: $5.27 on Solopreneur, $2.38 on Business, $1.25 on Enterprise, then $1 for each inbox past 200. Yearly billing brings them to $63, $95 and $199 a month. The app's plan page code also holds a second price table with Business at $149 and Enterprise at $299, so confirm the price at checkout.

Add domains at $10 to $15 a year each (5 inboxes per domain), and a sequencer. Mailscale's plans include neither warmup nor sending: its help center tells you to warm up for 2 to 3 weeks in Instantly or Smartlead.

Outreach2day is $2.50 a mailbox from 12, with warmup for the life of the mailbox and its own sequencer in that price, and a quoted volume price from 1,000 mailboxes.

In detail

Mailscale pros and cons

Pros, from Mailscale's own pages: a low price per inbox at volume ($1.25 on Enterprise, $1 past 200, $199 a month yearly); a 7-day free trial on the self-serve plans; inboxes ready as a CSV 20 to 30 minutes after the order; up to 30 campaign emails per inbox a day; domains in your name that stay yours if you cancel; and a done-for-you option with lead data and AI copy for teams that want to hand outbound over.

Cons: no refunds of any kind and automatic renewal; warmup and sending need a second subscription; IPs shared with every other customer; no Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 accounts; no public API or MCP server; CSV export only; two price tables in the app and two sets of limits in the help center; and a home page that now sells a service priced only on a call.

What 15, 50 and 200 inboxes cost all in

15 inboxes: Mailscale Solopreneur $79 plus 3 .com domains ($3.75 a month) plus a sequencer. At 25 a day the inboxes send about 8,250 emails a month, past Instantly Growth's 5,000, so Hypergrowth at $97 (Instantly pricing): about $180 a month. 15 Outreach2day mailboxes are $37.50 with warmup and the sequencer, plus 3 domains at $13 a year: about $41.

50 inboxes: Business $119 + 10 domains ($12.50) + Hypergrowth $97 is about $229. On Outreach2day, $125 + 10 domains ($10.83) is about $136.

200 inboxes: Enterprise $249 + 40 domains ($50) + Hypergrowth $97 is about $396; on Outreach2day $500 + 40 domains ($43) is about $543. At this size the Mailscale stack lists lower, on shared IPs and with no refunds. From 1,000 mailboxes we quote a price below every vendor list price in our comparisons on a call.

Refunds, renewals and cancellation

The refund policy is strict: "No refunds or credits will be issued for partial usage, early cancellation, failure to cancel prior to renewal, lack of results, or customer dissatisfaction." The deliverability commitment there is domain replacement, and a chargeback without contacting support can get the account suspended. A 2025 help article still promises "your money back or we buy new domains" if deliverability recovery fails; the policy page is the newer and stricter text.

Subscriptions renew automatically. Self-serve customers cancel through a cancel form; Agentic and "Unlimited" customers through their account manager. On Trustpilot, refunds and cancellation are the most common complaints in the one-star reviews.

Sending limits and the Microsoft rule

The 2024 limits article allows 30 campaign emails and 20 warmup emails per inbox a day. A June 2026 article about Microsoft's graymail filter gives 30 and 30, and adds that cold email to Hotmail, Outlook.com, Live and MSN addresses breaks Mailscale's policy and can get the account suspended.

30 a day on shared IPs is above the 25 we recommend per mailbox. If you size a Mailscale setup on 30, plan more inboxes the moment bounce or spam rates move.

What third-party reviews get wrong

Several pages ranking for "mailscale" describe a product that no longer matches Mailscale's own pages: "built-in warmup" (the help center sends you to your sequencer), "no free trial" (sign-up shows 7 days), $3.00 a mailbox (no plan costs that), Google Workspace tiers (not sold), dedicated IPs (the pool is shared) and "up to 1,000 accounts". None mentions the Agentic offer or the refund policy.
